I have an item I can’t seem to find on th spfreaks database. It’s Machina | The Machines of God in what appears to be a Taiwanese pressing that is completely unlike the one listed in the databse. I have no idea whether this is official or not, but I suspect it isn’t – it’s pretty shoddy. Any help would be appreciated. If you can’t help, I’m sure you’ll get a laugh out of this disaster!

I know, I know. I wish I had a scanner too.

The release code is CDG-2050, and that’s also the matrix code. The code can be found on the spine, where it lists the album title as \"MACHINA the macbines of god.\"

The disc itself is blue (similar in shade to the pressing). At the top it reads \"THE SMASHING\" in silver, and has a few stars. This suggests to me that it’s not official – many bootlegs only have a part of the band’s name rather than the whole thing so to not tip off the pressing company that they are pressing illegitimate SMASHING PUMPKINS discs. Around the rim there is legal information in English and Taiwanese(?), with a lot of spelling mistakes (including an unfortunate \"pubic\" instead of \"public!\"). There is also a code similar to the Philippine’s release code on the rim: ISRC CN-F10-97-338-00/A.J6.

The cover is the normal one, except slightly darker. The back of the booklet is beige and splotchy, and doesn’t have the reflection of the image on the disc on it. On the bottom right it reads CDG-2050.

The booklet only has only two pages – two plates from the artwork of the album reproduced entirely in blue and white.

The tray card back has the same image as the American pressing (the scroll with the red wax seal that contains the tracklist). It is paler than normal with higher contrast. It’s also a spelling disaster. Here’s how it reads (get ready for a laugh):

\"PRODUCED BX FLOOD AND BILLY Corgan
————-
one THE EVERLASTING GAZE-two-RALNDROPS+SUNSHOWERS
tdree-STAND INSIDE YOUR LOVE-four-love THE MOURNING-five-THE SACRED AND PROFANE
six-Try TRY,TRY-seven-HEAVY METAL-MACHINE-eigdr THIS TIME-NINE-THE IMPLODING VOICE
-ten-GLASS AND THE GHOST CHILDREN-eleven-WOUND-twelve-THE CRYING TREE OF MERCURY
tdirteen-WITH EVERYLIGHT-fourteen-BLUESKIES BRING TEARS
fifteen-AGE OF INNOCENCE
————-
http://WWW.smasdingpumpkins.com//www.virginrecords.com.\"

It goes on like this, and lists that it was manufactured in \"Taiwna\" and lists the Taiwanese Sony website. Here are some additional codes listed on the barcode area:

736649277364-94729
uk : cdhuy59
0 75992 42032 7 (under barcode)
F : PM 527 / LC 0398472

Well there it is. I found this in a used bin, and picked it up out of curiosity and it turns out I can’t find anything about it, anywhere. If needed, I’m sure I can get it scanned at a friend’s house for inclusion in the database.

amnesia, taking pictures of it is a brilliant idea that never would’ve occurred to me! They’re not the best pictures, but here they are:

Thanks a lot of taking the time to take those pictures. :)

However i may be wrong, but it looks like a bootleg, i mean the cd itself looks a lil suspicious, i might be wrong though.

Where are my manners, i forgot to welcome you here as well……Welcome onboard Voidhanger.

Definately a boot. But I always think these Asian album boots are kinda funny, because they have been boot-ed in a kinda childish way… That brings a smile to my face, most of the times. Nice find, Voidhanger! It would be nice to receive proper scans of this item someday, so we can put it in our database…

Haha cheers amnesia. I’ll get back to your message shortly!

Yeah I was 99% sure this was a bootleg, especially since there’s already a Taiwan version of the album that looks nothing like this. It’s definitely a neat find, if only for the entertainment value. It’s a dorky release, but it still adds to the collection!

I’ll see what I can do about getting proper scans for you Arthur – I think my friend has a scanner, if he does I’ll get it scanned for you soon. I’ll be sticking around here for a while, actually it’s a miracle I haven’t joined this site years ago!
