This CD-R was given to the touroperators from Virgin Schallplatten GmbH Germany by Billy Corgan (it’s his handwriting) to give away to mediapartners and friends of Virgin in Germany. He did that while the band was touring Europe and visited Germany in September of 2000. In October 2000 Virgin Germany did this, and quite interestingly (see letter): “Der set beinhaltete auch einige Songs des neuen, nur im Internet veroffentlichen Albums “Machina II, The Friends And Enemies Of Modern Music”, von dem seitens der Medien kolportiert wurde, es sei ein “final fuck you” der Smashing Pumpkins and die Plattenfirma der Band. Ein Zitat ubrigens, das absolut nicht der Wahrheit entsprechen wurde, wie uns Billy Corgan unterwegs mehrfach versicherte.”.
Translation: The setlist (of the German tour, SPfreaks) consists also some tracks of the internet-only album “Machina II, The Friends And Enemies Of Modern Music”, critisized in the media as it is the “final fuck you” of the Smashing Pumpkins to the label of the band. That quote however is absolutely not true, as Billy Corgan repeatedly expressed to us when we accompagnied him on the tour.
