Anna May Wong

Smashing Pumpkins albums are replete with symbolism and imagery. As a collector, I try to connect the dots and put stories and leads together to gain a better appreciation of the overall perspective. It therefore came as no surprise to discover a deeper meaning behind the early 20th century image used in association with William Patrick Corgan’s tea shop. Madame ZuZu’s Teahouse in Highland Park, Illinois, currently uses the image of Anna May Wong on some of their social media accounts. Born January 3, 1905, in Los Angeles, California, Anna May Wong was one of the first Chinese-American movie stars. She became a prominent […]

SPfreaks 2012

Article by The SPfreaks Team Again, what a remarkable year for Smashing Pumpkins fans!  We saw the release of a long awaited follow up to Zeitgeist.  The album, Oceania, is the first album to incorporate recordings from the post 2009 line-up after Jimmy Chamberlin left the band in March 2009.  It was well received by the public and has convinced the band to continue to push forward with plans to release another album already in motion.  Exciting news! We also saw two of our favorite releases re-mastered and reissued; Pisces Iscariot and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.  Both releases […]

Looking for writers

Article by The SPfreaks Team needs your help to fill our new WordPress blog with articles. If possible, we want to get in touch with Smashing Pumpkins fans/writers, and see if they are willing to have their articles, after a little review and editing process, to be published on SPfreaks WordPress. Next to that, a few years ago, Smashing Pumpkins asked fans to cooperate in a writing contest, and several of those fans were chosen to write on behalf of Unfortunately, after a while, the setup of the website of the band was changed and the writers concept did […]

So, to all tweeting Smashing Pumpkins fans: make sure you follow all SPfreaks Team updates on Twitter! Good luck, guys!

Happy New Year !!!

Announcement by The SPfreaks Team Last year, we ended with that one-of-a-kind German vinyl test pressing for Tristessa. This year we’re putting the spotlight on another very rare European Smashing Pumpkins item. Not as unique as the vinyl test pressing though. On the left, an almost spotless 1992 Dutch tour poster that was found on eBay very recently. With these kind of items, you have to realize that only a few dozen of these posters were made in the early days of Smashing Pumpkins, in a period when they were rather unknown still. Almost all of them were used back […]

What will the future bring, now Jimmy has left?

Update by Arthur van Pelt Last Sunday, an important meeting was scheduled in Amsterdam (NL) between representitives of SPFC, Starla, SPLRA and SPfreaks. All wellknown, large, and highly respected fansites of the Smashing Pumpkins. One of the topics was, of course, Jimmy Chamberlin leaving the band. What will the future bring? How will the new band survive the times? And what should the fansites do? Based on hot information we got from insiders to the band, we decided to join efforts and start all over under a new name, just like Billy Corgan is doing as we speak. Help us […]
