In fact, this release should not be called a “box set” as it was not intended to be a box set. For history purpose we give the whole set of 24 cds with the box that it was shipped in, it’s own entry anyway. The individual show releases are on our website elsewhere, with more detailed information.
Note that 2008/11/16 Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville was not released, due to “there was a recording melt-down, and it will not be released” (Brad Serling, Founder/CEO NUGS.NET, February 2009)).
Information about this release, as announced on SP.com:
“every night after each show, hard drives of the hi-resolution multi-track recordings are sent to the band’s engineer who then mixes and edits the shows. The only edits involved are splitting the show into individual songs – there are no other edits made to the recordings.”
“The packaging that comes with the physical CD is tri-fold (in other words, it holds up to three CDs) chipboard (and for your environmental conscience, each is produced on demand and is made from 100% post-consumer recycled cardboard). The packaging is branded with customized Smashing Pumpkins artwork, and each release includes the track listing, show date and whatever other information pertains to the release. The artwork is similar to the digital art available, though formatted for the tri-fold packaging. While the CDs are not glass mastered, they are of the same quality. According to a rep from livesmashingpumpkins.com, Kufala, the company handling the CDs, “utilizes state of the art robotic CD burning technology that replicates an identical copy to the original master. […] Kufala replicates at a slow speed to ensure the highest quality replication possible, [and utilizes] Tayio Yuden 80 minute professional grade blanks. […] On-disc art is thermally printed onto the CD.” Kufala similarly handles the live recordings of Pearl Jam, Phish, Widespread Panic, The Black Crowes, Crowded House and many other artists.”
